Grand Wighton Duck Race 2022.
The ducks are very excited, and will shortly be starting their intensive training programme to get ready for the event.
You can now sponsor the duck, or ducks, of your choice and the board with all the names is in the Carpenters' Arms pub. If you call in, they will be happy to add you to the list at a cost of £2 per duck.
Once again there will be a Children’s race, with ducks available on the day. There will also be a “veterans” race for those ducks who survive the main event and want to race again (they were all very keen to do it last year)!
Let’s hope it is a fine day and we can have a “quacking good time”.

After three years The Wighton Scarecrow Festival is back! If you are new to Wighton you will be amazed to see scarecrow figures and tableau popping up in gardens and open spaces throughout the village next week. We'd love as many people as possible to join in by making their own, so please do get involved. There is a competition (with prizes!) to judge the most ingenious design... a hot contest with some truly inventive crows making an appearance.
Throughout the weekend the church on Kirkgate will be the festival hub with daily refreshments, a raffle, fun and games for children as well as an exhibition board devoted to the village hall project.
The children's scarecrow making competition is on Sunday at 2.30pm on the village green opposite the Carpenters' Arms pub - you bring the child/children, we provide the rest - including prizes for the winners.
Finally a shout out for donations of cakes, biscuits or snacks for our refreshments' table as well as raffle prizes. All money raised goes towards village projects including the new village hall.
